Software You May See Installed on Your Computer (And Why)

As part of our managed IT services, Atlantic Office Technologies (AOT) deploys and manages a set of software tools designed to keep your systems secure, reliable, and up to date.

You may notice some of these applications installed on your computer. This post explains what they are, why they exist, and what they do (and don’t) do.

Why we install management software

These tools allow us to:

  • Monitor system health

  • Apply updates and security patches

  • Protect against cyber threats

  • Back up and recover data

  • Provide remote support when needed

They work quietly in the background and are not used for monitoring user activity or productivity.

What this software does not do

These tools:

  • ❌ Do not monitor keystrokes

  • ❌ Do not record screens

  • ❌ Do not track productivity

  • ❌ Do not access personal files without authorization

They are strictly for system management, security, and support.

Why transparency matters

We believe users should understand:

  • What software is installed

  • Why it exists

  • How it helps protect systems and data

This transparency supports trust, compliance, and better outcomes for everyone.

Our recommendation

If you ever:

  • See an application you don’t recognize

  • Have questions about a tool

  • Notice a new prompt or update

Please reach out to our support team — we’re happy to explain what it’s for and how it works.
